Heineken tells about its 10 year sustainability goals.
The brand’s plan is named “Brewing a Better Future” and has three main directions to care about.
The first is its environmental impact. By 2020 Heineken plans to reduce direct and indirect CO2 emissions in its breweries by at least 40% and water consumption by at least 25%.
Also, the brand is going to care about its carbon footprint in the whole value chain and so starting 2010, all replacement fridges issued to customers will be based on ‘green’ technology.
The second direction is empowerment of people and communities. It means more attention to local projects, such as
Heineken Africa Foundation, which will get further 10 million euros, and the introduction and audit of a new employee rights policy.
And, the last (but not the least) is the role of beer in society.
Heineken wants to strengthen its approach to responsible consumption by expanding special programs to horeca and retail and by 2015 ensuring that all markets have a partnership that help the company play its part in reducing alcohol abuse.
Also, the brand promises local ‘sustainability’ reports by 2015 and new, ‘sustainability’ codes for suppliers.
