In May 19th, 2008 McDonald’s Japan and NTT DoCoMo company, the Japanese mobile operator, offered McDonald’s consumers a new service – a possibility to pay for their food using a mobile phone.
To do it, a consumer should have installed on his/her mobile phone a special Java-application and give it a permission to access the RFID chip.
Once that’s done, it’s a simple matter of choosing what they want and swiping the phone on a reader at the McDonald’s counter to put in the order. This application was named a Kasazu coupon that means “without contact”.
The technology is being tested in 175 restaurants across Japan and by 2009 McDonald’s plans to expand it to its 3 800 nationwide stores. It should be marked that such technology also makes possible to advertise products directly, analyse the history of purchasing and give discounts.
It is known that it took about one year for developing of this project.
A video that illustrates the algorithm of a Kasazu coupon paying could be seen
