In China McDonald's found a new way to show consumers its low prices actual in times of a lot discussed economic crisis.

source: taobao.com

McDonald's launched the branded online auction at taobao.com (pic.).

There it sells not hamburgers, colas or potatoes but mobiles, cameras and household appliances. On the whole, it is an ordinary auction – with only one exclusion. It works on the so-called “Dutch” system with reverse auction function.

It means that every bid pushes down the price of an item until some participant is willing to accept the auctioneer's price or a predetermined reserve price (the seller's minimum acceptable price) is reached. In this case, it equals to 16,5 renminbis (the price of McDonald's super value meal in China).

The agency behind this project is Tribal DDB Shanghai.
