Nestle launched “Ecolaboration”, a platform for sustainable innovations, for Nestle Nespresso.
One could know about them at
ecolaboration.com (pic.) where Nestle outlines three major goals for this area.
Firstly, it means to reduce the carbon footprint of a cup of Nespresso by 20%. Now Nestle estimates that the total CO2 Nespresso emissions is 82 grams of CO2 equivalent per cup. This includes coffee cultivation, transportation, capsules, packaging, production centres, offices, business travel, commuting to and from work, and boutiques.
Secondly, it means to treble a Nespresso capacity to recycle capsules to 75% through the “AluCycle” initiative (the active cooperation of Nespresso Club Members and the International Union for Conservation of Nature).
Thirdly, it means to source 80% of Nespresso coffee from the Sustainable Quality Coffee Program. This program is committed to ensuring highest quality and sustainability in the coffee supply chain, whilst at the same time improving the standard of living for farmers and their families. It also includes the Rainforest Alliance certification of the farms.
Nestle plans to reach these goals by 2013.
