Starbucks unveiled the new design strategy.
It is based on several core principles:
- celebration of local materials and craftsmanship;
- focus on reused and recycled elements;
- exposure of structural integrity and authentic roots;
- elevation of coffee and removal of unnecessary distractions;
- storytelling and customer engagement through all five senses;
- flexibility to meet the needs of many customer types – individual readers and computer users, work, study and social groups.
There are also some very concrete targets:
For example, by 2010 50% of the energy used in company-operated stores will be from renewable sources, all new company-operated stores worldwide will get green
LEED certificates (by late 2010) and all Starbucks stores will become 25% more energy efficient.
As for illustration for this design strategy, the brand already has three such stores.
These are (pic.) the 1st Avenue & Pike Street store in Seattle, opened in March, 2009; the Paris Disney Village store, opened in mid-June 2009; and a renovated store in Seattle’s University Village should be opened this month.
