The brand was interested to gain more insight into how text messaging is being used in the modern dating scene. AT&T and Synovate polled text-messaging adults ages 18-55 and found that 40% of texters who are in a relationship or dating believe that text messaging plays a significant or very significant role in their relationships.
For example, 68% of texters surveyed admitted to sending a love note via text messaging, 67% of being surveyed said they had used text messaging to flirt and 28% of people indicated that they texted at least three times a day with a significant other or spouse.
True, these messages are not always very original or unique. According to AT&T, 52% of respondents said "thinking of you" was the most common text message received from a date or spouse, but often it was quite enough: 34% of texters in a relationship or dating agreed they would be more comfortable on a first date if they received a text message beforehand.
Also, 82% of people said they answered a text message immediately or as quickly as possible.
