It was found that the majority of people understand the importance of family dinners, and those who have such dinners, feel themselves more satisfied with every aspect of their lives. And more often family dinners you have means higher levels of well-being and satisfaction for you.
For example, 92% of Barilla’s respondents agree that they feel more connected to what is going on in their family’s life when they share a meal together, and 93% of surveyed rank sharing meals as the most important way they can connect with their family regularly.
But just being physically together at the table doesn’t necessarily mean that the family is really dining together:
69% of respondents say that some other activity competes with the typical family dinner. In most cases, this is a TV watching or other technology or entertainment-related distraction (58%). At that time, people say they do not have as many opportunities to connect with their family (59%) and friends (64%) as much as they would like.
The survey for Barilla was conducted by StrategyOne among 2 008 of American consumers aged 25-54 (January, 2009).
