“Tell me, what car you have and I’ll tell you about your habits”. It seems that researches from the Australian company PrivateFleet could think so when decided to survey driving habits among 2 500 Australian drivers.

agency: Leo Burnett. Colombia

It was found that Toyota drivers are 40% more likely than the average driver to talk on the phone while driving.

In average, about 5% of Australians often talk on the phone while driving and about 48% of being surveyed said they occasionally did so. For these mobile talks people often forget to use a hands-free.

VW drivers are the worst offenders with 74% admitting to having committed such an offence whilst only 60% Mazda drivers admit to the same.

Toyota became the most popular car - 18% of respondents said the drove Toyota. This Japan brand is followed by Holden (16,15%), Ford (about 12% of respondents) and Mitsubishi (about 9%). In short list thee also Nissan (6,37%), Subaru (5,55%), Mazda (5,46%), Honda (4,03%), Hyundai (3,94%), Volkswagen (2,55%), BMW (2,51%), Mercedes (2,34%) and Volvo (0,82%).

Researches found that Mazda came out on top as the having the best behaved drivers and BMW drivers might be the best behaved when it comes to text messages. Toyota drivers are about 30% less likely to drink and drive then an average Australian driver.

All data in details could be seen here.

The survey was conducted online (April, 2008) by privatefleet.com.au, Australia’s largest car buying service and drew responses from over 2 500 motorists.
